Penn State Hoops Alumni ‘The Basketball Tournament’ Team Sets Roster, Schedule

For the second year in a row, Penn State will be represented in The Basketball Tournament (TBT), a winner-take-all summer tourney with a grand prize of $1,000,000.

The Happy Valley Hoopers, a Penn State basketball alumni team organized by 2022 graduate John Harrar, will compete in the tournament once again. The current roster consists of Penn State alum such as Qudus Wahab (2023-24), Harrar (2017-2022), Sam Sessoms (2020-22), Jamari Wheeler (2017-21), Taylor Nussbaum (2017-21), Trent Buttrick (2017-2021), Izaiah Brockington (2018-21), and Josh Reaves (2015-19).

Ross Condon, a former Nittany Lion assistant coach, will be the head coach of the Happy Valley Hoopers. Additionally, Penn State alum Myles Dread will be the team’s assistant coach.

The Happy Valley Hoopers will play in the Pittsburgh Regional, opening play against the DuBois Dream at 1 p.m. on Saturday, July 20. The winner will go on to face the winner of Stars of Storrs (UConn alumni) and Herkimer Originals at 6 p.m. on Monday, July 22. The Pittsburgh Regional championship game is set for Wednesday, July 24 at 7 p.m.

If the Happy Valley Hoopers win the Pittsburgh Regional, they will move on to face the winner of the Butler Regional in the quarterfinals with an official game date, time and location to be determined. The semifinals and the championship game will be on August 2 and August 4 in Philadelphia at Daskalakis Athletic Center.
