The month of July got off to a rough start for the Illini as the news hit that 2025 four star guard Jeremiah Fears has decommitted from the program. The four-star guard committed to Illinois back in January and was the lone verbal commit for the 2025 recruiting class prior to reopening his recruitment. When Fears originally made his decision he chose the Illini over a number of power conference schools including Michigan, Kansas and Providence. 247Sports composite rankings currently lists the guard as a top 35 player in his class.

First Baptist Church of Alexandria, Virginia, is the latest casualty in the Southern Baptist Convention's war on churches that accept women pastors. The Independent reports that on Tuesday, delegates attending the SBC annual meeting voted 6,759 to 563 to oust the congregation.
