Penn State football’s defensive end Abdul Carter has been named to the Walter Camp preseason All-American second-team list as a linebacker, the organization announced Monday. Carter, who played linebacker for his first two years with the Nittany Lions, was the only Penn Stater recognized entering the 2024 season.

Carter, entering his junior year with Penn State, was regarded as one of the nation’s top linebacker prospects after each of his first two seasons. He wore Penn State’s No. 11 jersey, signifying his role at the helm of the team’s linebacker room. Thus far into his Penn State career, Carter has registered 105 total tackles, 11 sacks, 10 passes defended, three forced fumbles, and an interception.

Carter made the switch to defensive end shortly after the 2023 season, replacing a hole left by Chop Robinson and Adisa Isaac when both were drafted into the NFL. In April, head coach James Franklin said Carter was progressing quicker than expected in his new role.
