CENTRE COUNTY, Pa. (WTAJ) — A $2 million bridge replacement project is scheduled to start in State College after the Fourth of July holiday.

Starting on Monday, July 8, crews hired by the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) will be working to replace a bridge in the State College Borough. The bridge, located on Route 3022 (University Drive) over College Avenue, will be replaced to improve safety and ride quality.

Route 3022 will be closed and work will happen under a detour. The detour will utilize Route 26 (East College Avenue), Porter Road and Route 3007 (East Park Avenue) for approximately two miles. The structure is 66 feet long and carries a daily average of 11,688 vehicles.

PennDOT anticipates the project to be completed by mid-August, but work is weather-dependent.

Charles S. Hann, Inc. is the contractor for the $2 million project. The Route 3022 bridge is one of three bridges to be improved under this contract, with the other two expected to be worked on in early 2025.

PennDOT encourages motorists to “Know Before They Go” by checking conditions on more than 40,000 roadway miles by visiting www.511PA.com , downloading the 511 Android or iPhone app, or by calling 5-1-1.

511PA, which is free and available 24 hours a day, provides traffic delay warnings, weather forecasts, traffic speed information, and access to more than 1,000 traffic cameras.
