Penn State continued its roll on the recruiting trail with a familiar name as three-star athlete LaVar Arrington II has committed to Penn State football, he announced Thursday, July 4. Arrington is, unsurprisingly, the son of Penn State all-time great linebacker LaVar Arrington.

Arrington is a native of Covina, California and rated the No. 39 athlete in the nation and the No. 45 overall player in his home state, per the 247Sports Composite rankings. Arrington's verbal commitment lands Penn State's 2025 class as the eighth-best in the nation according to the same site. Arrington hits the scales at 6-foot-3 and 215 pounds. Much like his father, Arrington's main attribute is athleticism, having played wide receiver, tight end and linebacker while at Charter Oak.

Also much like his father, his athleticism helped him excel on the field, although generally his defensive stats, which include 65 tackles and 12 sacks - according to MaxPreps - are more impressive than his work on the offensive side of the ball. Three-star prospect Alex Tatsch is the only other linebacker in Penn State's 2025 class so far, a grouping that is now 21 players deep.
