The son of a Penn State icon is treading the same path as his father.

On Thursday, LaVar Arrington II pledged his allegiance to the Nittany Lions' recruiting class for 2025. The son of the esteemed LaVar Arrington, a Penn State luminary, announced his commitment on social media.

On Thursday, Penn State secured a commitment from LaVar Arrington II. Classified as a three-star prospect, he is ranked by Rivals as the 41st top player in California and the 31st among weakside defensive ends for the class of 2025.

Arrington, who stands at 6-foot-2 inches and weighs 210 pounds, recorded 65 tackles and 12 sacks during his junior year at Charter Oak High School in Covina, California. He received scholarship offers from 15 colleges, including notable programs in Michigan, Oregon, Washington, Tennessee, and Colorado.

Penn State 2025 Recruiting Class Update

Penn State extended an offer to Arrington II in the autumn. He attended the annual Blue-White Game in April and then traveled to State College for his official visit with the Nittany Lions on the last official visit weekend of the summer.

Joining James Franklin's recruiting class for 2025 as the 21st player, Arrington II's decision bolsters a group that also boasts Mater Dei cornerback Daryus Dixson. Dixson, a four-star recruit from Santa Ana, California, is ranked 53rd overall by Rivals. Currently, the 2025 class of Penn State is ranked 6th nationally.

    Who Was Lavar Arrington?

LaVar Arrington enjoyed a remarkable career as an All-American and a Hall of Famer at Penn State from 1997 to 1999. Nittany Lions fans are excited about the possibility of seeing another LaVar Arrington don the navy blue and white, although it remains to be seen if his son will mirror his accomplishments at Happy Valley.

While at Penn State, the elder LaVar Arrington was honored as an All-American twice, in addition to winning the Jack Lambert Trophy and the Dick Butkus Award, which are awarded to the nation's premier linebacker, along with the Chuck Bednarik Award for the top defensive player in college football. He also achieved a ninth-place finish in the voting for the 1999 Heisman Trophy.

After leaving Penn State following his junior year, Arrington was selected as the No. 2 overall pick in the 2000 NFL Draft by Washington, where he played for six seasons. His professional career concluded with the New York Giants in 2006, following retirement due to injuries from a motorcycle accident.

In 2002, his college football achievements were further recognized with an induction into the College Football Hall of Fame.
