LaVar Arrington II, Son Of NFL Vet LaVar Arrington, Commits To Penn State
Outside Linebacker prospect LaVar Arrington II has announced his commitment to Penn State this evening. If that name sounds familiar, it should. His father is former seven-year vet and Penn State All-American LaVar Arrington.
Arrington II is listed as an athlete but is expected to choose Outside Linebacker when he joins the Nittany Lions. A three-star recruit out of Charter Oak High School in Covina, California, Arrington II finished last season with 65 tackles, including 12 sacks on the year. The 6’2, 210lb defender has offers from Michigan, Washington, Colorado, Tennessee, and UCLA among others. He took an official visit to Happy Valley this spring, which all but locked up his decision to play for James Franklin.
His father was an absolute stud during his time at Penn State. During his time at the university, Arrington would total 173 total tackles, 19 sacks, and three interceptions. A feared defender, Arrington would be named All-American in back-to-back seasons and won the Butkus, Bednarik Awards, and the Jack Lambert Trophy while finishing ninth in Heisman Trophy voting. He would go on to be selected second overall in the 200 draft, where he spent seven seasons in the NFL, including three pro bowls.
LaVar Arrington II might have some pretty big shoes to fill, but he is no slouch of his own. He should grow into his frame, adding muscle and strength to a solid pass-rush set. However, he does have some intriguing upside on offense if they decide to try him out, as he did reel in two touchdowns on limited snaps last season. Arrington II becomes the 21st recruit in the 2025 class for Franklin, as the Nittany Lions now have the eighth overall recruiting class in the country.
