Former Penn State cornerback A.J. Lytton killed in car crash

The Penn State football family mourned the loss of former defensive back A.J. Lytton following a tragic car accident in Maryland on Saturday. Lytton was a passenger in a vehicle struck by another driver early Saturday morning. He was one of three victims to pass in the accident. The other two victims were high school teammates of Lytton’s, former Oregon cornerback Kyree Jackson , and former Maryland Isaiah Hazel. Lytton was 24.

According to the preliminary police report, Jackson and Hazel were pronounced deceased on the scene of the accident by responding emergency medical personnel. Lytton was pronounced deceased after being rushed to a nearby hospital.

“The Penn State football family mourns the loss of former Nittany Lion, A.J. Lytton,” a statement from the football program’s official X account read on Saturday. “Our thoughts and prayers are with his family, friends, high school and all involved in the tragedy.”

Police continue to investigate the accident. The preliminary report suggests a driver in another vehicle attempted to change lanes at a high speed and stuck the vehicle carrying the three victims. The car carrying the three high school teammates is believed to have travel off the road and struck multiple tree stumps before coming to an abrupt stop.

Lytton spent one season at Penn State after transferring from Florida State in 2021. He served as a backup cornerback for the Nittany Lions and contributed on special teams. Lytton then entered the transfer portal in 2022.
