Penn State and every Division I program is just 10 days out from the start of a one-week period in July when on-campus visits are allowed. Beginning July 25, James Franklin and his staff will be able to host prospects on campus until July 31. It’s likely we’ll see a few players pop up for individual visits during the week, but for the vast majority of recruits, July 26-27 will be the busiest stretch.

In addition to the staff hosting a camp each of those days, Franklin and his staff have decided to host two barbecues – better known as the ‘The Lasch Bash’ – instead of just one event. One of them, which we expect to take place July 27, will focus on the players who are already committed. The other event, on July 26, is expected to focus on top 2026 and 2027 prospects from across the region.

Now, in addition to Avon, Ohio, athlete Jakob Weatherspoon , another Buckeye State native confirmed his plans to be in State College on July 26 in Olentangy prospect Kaden Gebhardt .

Listed at 6-foot-1, 195 pounds, Gebhardt is the former teammate of Penn State quarterback Ethan Grunkemeyer . He picked up an offer from the Lions just last month following a strong camp performance back on June 9. Although he’s listed as a safety by On3, Gebhardt is actually being recruited to play linebacker for the Nittany Lions.

“They like me at linebacker and like the way I can run the felid. They loved my 40, which I ran a 4.53,” Gebhardt said following camp. He went on to add, “I’m 100 percent fine with it because I play the game physical and fast, whether that’s being a linebacker or a safety. I would say most schools want me for safety, and some want me for more as a linebacker, which is perfect for me. I will play wherever I’m needed.”

In addition to Penn State, Gebhardt is also locked in to visit Notre Dame the following day, July 27. The Fighting Irish haven’t yet offered, but he does hold quality offers from schools like Duke, Indiana, Louisville, Missouri, Oklahoma, Purdue, West Virginia and Wisconsin.

According to On3’s Industry Rankings , Gebhardt is ranked No. 404 nationally. He’s the 35th-ranked safety and No. 18 in Ohio for the 2026 class. As a sophomore, he totaled 129 tackles for Olentangy. Gebhardt also had four tackles for loss, four pass deflections, three interceptions and one sack.
