Penn State Football: White Out Set for Washington, More Game Themes Announced

Penn State football's Nov. 9 contest at Beaver Stadium against national title runner-up Washington will be the Nittany Lions' annual White Out game, the program announced on Monday afternoon. Kickoff time and television arrangements have not yet been announced.

The contest will mark the end of an impressive three-home-game stretch against UCLA, Ohio State and then the Huskies. Road trips to USC (Oct. 12) and Wisconsin (Oct. 26) as well as an off week (Oct. 19) fall between the UCLA and Ohio State games.

The run of themes will start out on Oct. 5 as Penn State hosts UCLA for the annual Stripe Out (alternating blue and white and sections of the stadium). When the Nittany Lions return to Beaver Stadium a few weeks later to host Ohio State on Nov. 2, the Buckeyes will be treated to a Helmet Stripe game, the third in Beaver Stadium history. The Helmet Stripe game is effectively a White Out with a blue section of the stadium on the 50 yard-line to represent Penn State's white helmets with a blue stripe down the middle.

Just a week following a clash against Ohio State, Penn State will host on Nov. 9 a Washington team going through what amounts to an entire program rebuild following a close loss last season to Michigan in the national title game.

Game themes for the remainder of the season include Homecoming against Illinois on Sept 28. and Military Appreciation Day for a Week 3 meeting against Kent State on Sept. 21, while the Nov. 30 regular season finale against Maryland will fill the usual role as Senior Day. The Sept. 9 home opener against Bowling Green, following an Aug. 31 season opener on the road against West Virginia, will be Penn State's annual THON game.

More information about each theme can be found here. Information about shirt color assignments for the Helmet Stripe and Strip Out will be released at a later date, although should be consistent with similar assignments made in previous years.
