Penn State unveiled its 2024 game themes Monday afternoon, including the iconic White Out game that the program has made a nationwide phenomenon.

This season’s game will take place on November 9 against the newly minted Big Ten program, the Washington Huskies . The time and network are still TBD, but the reigning national runner-ups are now confirmed as the Nittany Lions’ opponent for this year’s edition of the White Out game.

As it is every year, it will be a spectacle for the whole college football world to see. Whether the matchup will happen at night remains to be seen, but the game has traditionally been held at night, giving Beaver Stadium an even more lively atmosphere.

Fox, the Big Ten’s primary broadcasting entity, has recently shifted to favoring its noon kickoff slot as the home for its best matchup of the week. Perhaps Penn State and Fox came together to choose Washington as the White Out opponents since the game is unlikely to be the top Fox broadcast of the week due to Washington’s turnover coming off a College Football Playoff appearance.

Many Penn State fans were worried that the September 28 game against Illinois would be the White Out game this year; after it was announced, the game would be either a late afternoon or early evening kickoff.

Penn State fans can now rejoice that the Fighting Illini won’t be this year’s White Out game but rather an intriguing matchup welcoming a new Big Ten member to Beaver Stadium.

Another theme game of note announced today is Penn State’s matchup against Ohio State a week before on November 2, which will be the Helmet Stripe game. The helmet stripe theme is relatively new, and this year marks just the third time it has been done at Beaver Stadium. Fans attending the game will wear white except for a select group of sections that will wear blue to resemble Penn State’s classic helmets.
