STATE COLLEGE, Pa. (WTAJ) — The State College Area School District Board of Directors unanimously approved a geotechnical exploration for its new middle school location.

The exploration is for the new Park Forest Middle School, with Crabtree, Rohrbaugh & Associates as the architectural firm leading the project. The firm will explore the proposed site, which is located off Valley Vista Drive, as its first steps towards replacing the 53-year-old middle school building.

The exploration comes at a $6,545 price tag and will drill five holes approximately 20 feet deep to provide data that the site is stable for construction.

Initial plans for the new Park Forest Middle School called for a three-story, 200,000-square-foot building. Earlier this year, the Board approved the district’s purchase of 7.4 acres from Hawbaker-Brower Limited Partnership for $1.4 million in support of the project.
