How a Global IT Outage Is Affecting Centre County

A major IT outage on Friday is impacting businesses and organizations worldwide, including several in Centre County.

Cybersecurity firm CrowdStrike reported that a defect in an update to its services on Microsoft Windows hosts caused the issue and that a fix has been deployed. The company said it was not a cyberattack.

The outage has impacted a wide range of services globally, from airlines to banks to health care.

At State College Regional Airport , only one flight has been delayed so far — a United flight scheduled to arrive in State College at 2:24 p.m. — according to a check of United and American arrivals and departures. All other arrivals and departures at the airport are listed as on time as of noon on Friday.

Mount Nittany Health was "experiencing significant disruptions across our entire health system," and all non-emergency appointments, including surgeries were canceled at the medical center, Mount Nittany Health and Mount Nittany Physician Group offices, according to a message sent Friday morning.

"We currently have limited access to patient contact information and apologize for any inconvenience this may cause," the State College-based health system wrote.

The Centre Area Transportation Authority is operating on its normal schedule, but anyone needing to contact CATA administrative systems may encounter difficulties.

"CATA is working diligently to resolve these issues and expects to be fully operational by this afternoon," the authority wrote in a news release. "We would like to thank the
community for their understanding and patience."
