State College, Pa. — A homeless man confessed to stealing items from a local Target, claiming he needed new clothes and wanted to listen to music.

Blair Asa McChesney, 29, was confronted by State College police officers in the 200 block of West Beaver Avenue as he left the store, according to the complaint. McChesney allegedly turned over men’s clothing and a pair of JBL wireless headphones to police.

An employee who viewed surveillance video claimed McChesney also stole a cell phone, Officer Benjamin Capozzi said. The phone was located inside McChesney’s backpack after he gave officers permission to search it, Capozzi added.

Investigators said the total value of the items is $440.

According to State College police, this is McChesney’s third time being arrested for retail theft. McChesney is also being charged with receiving stolen property. He is being held at the Centre County Prison on $20,000 monetary bail.
