Penn State fans probably know the Pegula name, and tennis fans have been hearing it more and more over the past few years.

Now, sports fans around the country will be cheering Jessica Pegula as she takes the court for Team USA in Paris.

But who is the rising tennis star with deep roots in Pennsylvania and New York?

The 30-year-old Buffalo native is the daughter of Terry and Kim Pegula , who own both the Buffalo Bills and Buffalo Sabres.

One of the Pegula family's most notable contributions is to Penn State University.

In 2010, Terry and Kim Pegula donated $88 million to Penn State, the largest private gift in the university's history, funding the construction of the Pegula Ice Arena, a state-of-the-art facility that helped push Penn State’s ice hockey program to NCAA Division I status.

Jessica Pegula has climbed the WTA rankings and racked up impressive victories against top-ranked opponents.

Pegula is part of a stacked singles lineup , featuring Coco Gauff, Danielle Collins and Emma Navarro. Pegula will also play doubles alongside Gauff, who was just named as a flag bearer for Team USA.

It is Pegula’s first Olympics. Tennis matches begin Saturday.
