Penn State football’s defense might’ve gotten a huge boost.

Four-star defensive end commit Max Granville has reclassified from the class of 2025 to the class of 2024, Penn State confirmed Thursday. Granville will be on campus in a week for the start of preseason camp.

Granville, a native of Sugar Land, Texas, was ranked the No. 22 linebacker overall and the No. 28 player in his home state in the class of 2025, according to the 247Sports Composite rankings . He committed to Penn State last month.

If confirmed, the 6’2.5″, 220-pound Granville will join a defensive end room that just lost standouts Chop Robinson and Adisa Isaac in the 2024 NFL Draft. Abdul Carter and Dani Dennis-Sutton are both likely to start on either side this season.

The Nittany Lions open their season in a little over a month at noon on August 31 at West Virginia.
