Wilkes County Bulldozer Accident Claims Life Of Man
A man died Wednesday morning in a Wilkes County bulldozer accident at a construction site in Traphill. Reports indicate the victim was struck by a bulldozer and died about a mile off Piney Grove Church Road. Emergency personnel said the mishap occurred at the site of Contentment Club, a new private facility with an 18-hole golf course.
Wisc. man dies while working on golf course
A man died Wednesday morning in a bulldozer accident while helping to build a new golf course in Traphill. A Wilkes Sheriff’s Office press identified the victim as Michael Earl Ufken, 70, of Monroe, Wisc. Ufken was employed as a bulldozer operator by Lincoln, Neb.-based Landscapes Unlimited LLC while working on the new golf course when the accident occurred.
Motorcycle operator's arm amputated in wreck
A motorcycle operator’s left arm was amputated in a wreck on Sunset Drive near North Wilkesboro about 6:30 p.m., Sunday, July 14. Brian Dortch, 31, of North Wilkesboro, was eastbound on a Kawasaki when he went off the right side of the road in slight curve just after crossing the Reddies River bridge and was thrown from the motorcycle when it turned over, said Trooper Z.D. West of the N.C. Highway Patrol.
Tom Dooley on stage this weekend
The final performances of the 2024 season of the stage play “Tom Dooley: A Wilkes County Legend” will be performed this week at Benton Hall at 300 D Street in North Wilkesboro.
