Carolina Hills Fiddle Fest results with photos
This run down of the results from the resurrected fiddlers convention in Union Grove, NC – with a huge gallery of photos – is a contribution from Bethany Prevette. The first annual Carolina Hills Fiddle Fest took place this past Memorial Day Weekend, celebrating 100 years of music in the Grove. Anniversary shirts were on sale, as well as a set of vintage records from previous Fiddler’s Grove conventions held at the property. There are still a few shirts and record sets available at the new Country Store on the property.

Carol Billings Walsh
Carol Billings Walsh, 72, of Wilkesboro, passed away Tuesday, July 9, 2024, at the City of Hope Cancer Center in Georgia. Mrs. Walsh was born March 3, 1952, in Wilkes County to Jasper Eudaley and Ruby Baldwin Billings. She was a member of Goshen Baptist Church and the Wilkes County Cruisers. She retired from Wilkes County Schools as data manager for the exceptional children’s department. Carol enjoyed crafting, cooking, shopping, gardening and her flowers. What she loved the most, was spending time with her family. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her spouse, Jerry Thomas Walsh, and her brother, Roger Gene Billings.

Abandoned Tobaccoville house damaged by fire
An abandoned house on River Bluff Farm Road in Tobaccoville was badly damaged by fire Saturday afternoon, officials said Monday. Forsyth County fire officials said that units from the Old Richmond Fire Department responded to the fire about 1:30 p.m. and found smoke and fire coming from the roof.
