BELLEFONTE — Smith + Front, a shop located at the Gamble Mill in Bellefonte, announced the return of its weekly Sunday Funday pop-up event. Every Sunday during the summer from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., a pop-up event featuring 30 local makers, food trucks, local music and more will be put on by Staci Egan, owner of Smith + Front, on the grassy lot in front of the Gamble Mill.

The first event of the year will be on Sunday, May 19, followed by events every Sunday through Sunday, Aug. 11, excluding Sunday, July 14.

The 2024 Sunday Funday series will mark the third year that Egan, whose shop sells a variety of handmade goods, plants and plant accessories, has organized the event. As a maker herself, Egan saw the potential for an event that would enhance her business and support other local small businesses, while providing an enjoyable experience for the community to enjoy.

“Both my husband and I are makers, so we’ve done a lot of shows before. It takes a lot of work to make an event. I knew a lot of makers in the area, and my friends suggested I try to plan something,” Egan shared. “At first, I thought the last thing I needed was something else on my plate, but then it was just there, this big grassy area right in front of the shop. I thought, ‘Let’s at least try,’ and now here we are, year three of it.”

While the event is held weekly throughout the summer, Egan coordinated a rotating variety of makers and vendors so that each Sunday event offers a different experience.

“Each week we will have around 30 vendors between food trucks, vendors and entertainment. We have 135 different vendors that will be coming throughout the spring and summer to our events,” Egan said. “I want to make sure that at each event I’m not saturating any specific medium, so there won’t be more than a couple of each type of vendor at each date. But we will have things like prints, jewelry, plants, fresh cut flowers, candles, bath and body products, macrame and woodworking. Pretty much, whatever you are looking for should be there.”

Throughout the summer, many of the Sunday Fundays will feature live music or other activities, like a photography station or tours from Local Historia, a Bellefonte business that puts on historical walking tours in the area.

“I'm looking forward to a lot of fun and a lot of sunshine. It’s a great community event for people to come out and hang out,” Egan said. “We don’t need any more Amazons. At these events you are supporting your neighbors, you’re supporting your community and you’re keeping the money in your community. Plus, you’re also getting quality products on top of it.”
