Former Penn State football cornerback A.J. Lytton was among three people killed in multi-vehicle crash early Saturday morning, Maryland State Police confirmed .

Lytton and Minnesota Vikings cornerback Khyree Jackson , both 24, were passengers in a Dodge Charger driven by their former high school teammate Isaiah Hazel, 23, when their car was struck by an Infinity Q50, went off the road and hit several tree stumps at 3:14 a.m. in Upper Marlboro, Maryland, a preliminary investigation found. The driver of the Infiniti was attempting to change lanes when she struck the Charger and another car, police wrote.

Jackson and Hazel were pronounced dead at the scene. Lytton was taken to a hospital, where he died. No others were injured in the crash. Charges are pending against the driver of the Infiniti and police believe alcohol was a factor in the crash, which remains under investigation.

After two years at Florida State, Lytton spent the 2021 season at Penn State. He played in 11 games and recorded one tackle against Iowa.

He entered the transfer portal after the season but did not play for another program.

"The Penn State Football Family mourns the loss of former Nittany Lion, A.J. Lytton," the team wrote in a social media post. "Our thoughts & prayers are with his family, friends, high school & all involved in the tragedy."

Lytton, Hazel and Jackson, who picked by the Vikings in the fourth round of the NFL Draft in April, played together at Wise High School in Upper Marlboro.
