    Penn Highlands Community College to Host Open House for New Centre County Location

    Pennsylvania Highlands Community College will hold a ribbon cutting and open house on Friday, Aug. 16 at its new location inside Bellefonte's Match Factory building .

    The location on the second floor at 190 Match Factory Place is Penn Highlands first in Centre County and seventh in central and western Pennsylvania.

    “It is with great excitement that Penn Highlands Community College is opening a new educational location in Bellefonte to serve all of Centre County,” Penn Highlands President Steve Nunez said in a news release. “We hope the residents of the County can visit us during the open house, where they will be treated with seeing our beautiful, state-of-the art educational facility and the opportunity to gain information from our faculty and staff.”

    The Aug. 16 event will kick off at 10:30 a.m. with remarks by Nunez, Board of Trustees Chairperson Greg Winger, Chamber of Business & Industry of Centre County President Greg Scott and Bellefonte Borough Manager Ralph Stewart, who was appointed as Centre County representative on the Board of Trustees in April.

    An open house will follow from noon to 2 p.m., when attendees will be able to tour the facility, ask questions and meet Penn Highlands faculty and staff.

    The 5,2000-square-foot Bellefonte location includes classrooms, a computer lab, a conference room, offices and a dedicated area for student activities.

    It will offer will offer in-person courses eligible for transfer, comprehensive online degree programs and a hybrid experience with virtual courses and scheduled meetings. Penn Highlands Centre County will provide in-person services and support for online students, including resources for those seeking assistance and personalized guidance.

    Penn Highlands has more than 160 articulation agreements for transferring credits with nearly three dozen colleges and universities

    The college has also signed articulation agreements with State College Area School District and the Central Pennsylvania Institute of Science and Technology to apply credits earned in certain courses at the schools toward associate degree programs at Penn Highlands.

    “We are all enthusiastic about the opening of Penn Highlands Centre County,” Marissa Davis, Regional Center director, said in the release. “This is a new and exciting beginning, not just for Penn Highlands Community College, but for so many people in this community.”
