The National Weather Service at State College has issued a flood watch for Centre County as heavy rainfall from Tropical Storm Debby is expected to push into the area.

The watch is in effect from 2 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday throughout central Pennsylvania. A watch means conditions are favorable for flooding to occur. A warning would be issued if flooding is imminent or occurring.

Rainfall will begin late Thursday night and continue into Friday night in Centre County. Accumulations of 3 to 5 inches are expected, and locally higher amounts of 6 to 7 inches are possible, according to NWS.

AccuWeather forecasts 4 to 8 inches of rain in Centre County through about 7 p.m. on Friday.

"Excessive runoff may result in flooding of rivers, creeks, streams and other low-lying and flood-prone locations," according to the NWS. "Those living in areas prone to flooding should be prepared to take action should flooding develop."

Wind gusts could reach 35 mph and peak sustained winds are forecasted to be about 24 mph, according to AccuWeather.

Once the storm moves out, a pleasant weekend is on tap, with AccuWeather forecasting partly sunny skies and high temperatures in the mid-70s on Saturday and Sunday.
