Mount Nittany Health is getting ready to open the doors to its $90 million new outpatient center at Toftrees West in Patton Township.

The 125,000-square-foot facility at 164 Greenview Drive will begin providing services on Sept. 3, the State College-based health system wrote in a news release on Friday.

After about two years of construction , the four-story building will bring together 11 practices under one roof. They include:

    • Obstetrics and gynecology, which is relocating from 1850 Park Avenue.
    • A new pediatrics practice.
    • Fitness and rehabilitation, formerly Fit for Play, relocating from Sandy Drive.
    • Neurology, including the Headache Clinic, relocating from Old Gatesburg Road.
    • Orthopedics and sports medicine, relocating from Blue Course Drive.
    • Ear, nose and throat, relocating from Boalsburg.
    • Outpatient general surgery, relocating from 1850 Park Avenue. Surgeries will still be performed at the Medical Center.
    • Urology, relocating from University Drive.
    • Primary care, relocating from Green Tech Drive.
    • Gastroenterology, relocating from Boalsburg
    • New endoscopy center. More clinically complex cases will remain at the Medical Center.

Patients of most of these practices should report to Mount Nittany Health Toftrees for appointments on or after Sept. 3. OB/GYN and endoscopy will be moving to Toftrees at a later date, so patients should verify appointment location details prior to their visit.

Existing patients can confirm their appointment location at mymountnittanyhealth.com .

The new outpatient center has space for more than 60 health care providers and 200 employees. The 20-acre site also has room for expansion, with potential for additional phases and services, according to Mount Nittany Health.

It is the first building at the 700-acre Toftrees West development , located at the end of Waddle Road to the west of the golf resort property. Development of Toftrees West has been expected for decades and in 2014 the Toftrees master plan was revised to indicate future development for the west end of the property that would include about 2,500 residential units — a mix of single-family and multi-family residences — as well as retail, restaurant, hotel and office space with a town center and parkland areas.

It is also the second major new health care facility in the Waddle Road corridor of Patton Township. Just 1 mile away is the new Penn Highlands State College hospital and medical office building, which opened this summer.

For Mount Nittany Health, the outpatient center is one of two major construction projects undertaken in the last two years and among several recent capital investments.

Construction began in 2023 for a new $350 million patient tower at the medical center. The 300,000-square-foot addition will include 168 private patient rooms and will enable existing semi-private rooms to be converted to single-occupancy, so all of the hospital’s inpatients will have their own room. When completed, Mount Nittany’s bed count will grow by five to 248 and its license for 260 beds will not change.

The tower, which is expected to open in late 2026, will also include telemetry capabilities, outpatient clinics, point-of-care registration, a modernized data center, staff amenities, improved storage, outdoor spaces and dining facilities, as well as a 177-space parking deck connected to the tower by a covered walkway.

"The opening of Mount Nittany Health Toftrees marks a significant milestone in our more than 120-year history of community service," Mount Nittany wrote in the release. "Simultaneously, the construction of the new Patient Tower at Mount Nittany Medical Center is progressing, with the steel structure now visible. We look forward to welcoming our patients and the community into these new, cutting-edge spaces."

Other recent projects include Mount Nittany's first walk-in clinic , which opened in May at 2051 S. Atherton St.

At the medical center, the second phase of major renovations to the diagnostic pavilion opened earlier this year and the third phase is expected to be completed in the fall. A new clinical laboratory also opened in early 2023 at the medical center.
