When choosing a day camp, parents have a few priorities that rise to the top of any must-offer list. At the top of that list is safety. Located on the school’s fenced-in 12-acre campus on Todt Hill, the SI Academy Day Camp features in-person sign-in when the camp opens at 8:45 and sign-out at 4. Full-time security personnel are on hand to make sure kids go home with the right grown up, and to make sure no one is at the camp who shouldn’t be.

Inside the campus, the camp is a hive of activity, with clean, well-tended outdoor facilities — including soccer, baseball and softball fields, three tennis courts and two pools — and air-conditioned indoor classrooms, a gymnasium, auditorium, and cafeterias. The pools are staffed by Red Cross certified lifeguards and qualified aquatics and water safety instructors. That’s why the Staten Island Academy camp is a licensed Learn to Swim (LTS) provider.

In fact, all of the staff at the Staten Island Academy Day Camp are fully vetted with all necessary background checks and certifications before sessions begin on June 17. The camp hires only people already known to the Academy, including certified teachers as well as older high school and college students who are pursuing a future in education.

Kids’ Priority: Make It Fun

Staten Island Academy Camp offers all the things kids love about camp, from arts and crafts to music and performance to science and discovery — and of course, sports and games. There’s even a rock climbing facility on site. It’s enough to work up a ferocious appetite, and campers are well fed in the Academy’s fully equipped, air-conditioned cafeteria, with both hot and cold options.

To promote appropriate socializing, campers are divided into groups by age and grade level; with groups for giants (ages 3-5), juniors (entering grades 1 and 2), intermediates (grades 3 and 4), seniors (grades 5 and 6), and super seniors (grades 7 and 8). There is also an adventure/counselor-in-training option for those entering 9th and 10th grade.

For families who want to expand their children’s options, there are also pre-scheduled auxiliary camps. The first are two Lego STEM camps June 24 – 28 and August 5-9.
