STAUNTON — The goal of Renewing Homes for Greater Augusta is to ensure that all houses in the SAW region are safe, warm, dry, and accessible through free critical housing repairs for low-income households, as stated by both Project Manager Jeff Kiser and CEO Sharon Coplai.

A 501(c)(3) nonprofit, Renewing Homes is celebrating its 30th anniversary of dedicated service to the SAW region.

Over the past three decades, Renewing Homes for Greater Augusta has been a vital resource for the community, embodying its mission of “renewing homes and lives for people in need.”

In 2023 alone, volunteers dedicated over 3,000 hours to repairing 70 homes, benefiting 124 residents. To meet its four-pillar goal of "warm, safe, dry, and accessible," Renewing Homes for Greater Augusta undertakes various critical efforts like making homes safer by fixing floors, upgrading electrical work, securing door locks, and keeping homes warm by repairing and replacing windows and doors, adding insulation, and installing underskirting.

The group also ensures homes remain dry, by addressing plumbing and roofing issues, which prevents water damage that can lead to severe structural problems and health hazards. Additionally, they enhance accessibility by building wheelchair ramps and improving handicapped access, allowing residents with mobility challenges to live more independently.

The organization’s volunteers have been instrumental in this mission, contributing thousands of hours to critical home repair projects. Volunteers are always in need; regardless of age, physical ability, or home-repair experience. For more information, visit www.renewinghomes.org or contact renewinghomesga@gmail.com if you wish to work with the organization. During the school year, the organization looks to many school honor societies like NHS and Key Club in order to fulfill their volunteer hours.

As Renewing Homes for Greater Augusta celebrates this significant milestone, the community looks forward to many more years of partnership and progress. The organization’s ongoing efforts continue to bring about lasting change, one home and one life at a time.
