The Governor’s Restaurant for breakfast
Nowhere else but the Governors can you get “The Capital” for breakfast. The Governor’s Capital comes with two eggs any style, three strips of bacon, three sausage links or ham, home fries, and the Governor’s signature toast.
But my favorite is the Hash Smash, with two eggs any style over corned beef hash, a grilled English muffin liberally smothered with Hollandaise sauce, and a generous helping of home fries. It’s literally about all I can eat.
Of course, you could always customize your breakfast by adding pancakes, an omelet, any way you like it. Lots of gooey cheese? Yes, please—American, Mozzarella, Swiss, Cheddar, or Feta, whatevah you please. You could have it with mushrooms, peppers, onions, tomato, olives, and your choice of ham, bacon, or sausage for a little extra.

Try the Governor’s for lunch
I sometimes order a double-meat lobster roll with onion rings and a bowl of New England clam chowder. Their clam chowder is a creamy, richly rendered salt pork stock with diced potatoes and sauteed onions — but only when I’m wicked hungry.
Maybe you want a lighter lunch? The Governor’s Club Sandwich has lots of bacon, tomato, lettuce, mayo, and either turkey or ham. I prefer turkey. Add onion rings or fries to your club for a little extra, or go a la carte.

Go to the Governor’s for a relaxing "family" dinner
Many customers want one of the Governor’s Blue-Plate Specials. You could get three cheeseburger sliders, a Red hot dog and cheeseburger, two red hot dogs, or two cheeseburgers with an ice-cold Pepsi product and fries.
But what gets my mouth watering every time I go to the Governor’s is this New York-Style Reuben. OMG! Corned beef, Swiss cheese, Thousand Island dressing, layered thick on marbled rye. This fresh deli sandwich is served with your choice of crinkle-cut fries, onion rings, coleslaw (Yessah, I love some creamy coleslaw), sweet potato waffle-style fries, or the chef’s choice of vegetables. Some of these might have an additional charge; check the menu.
I have such a difficult time choosing; I look at the menu before I go. You might also like one of the Maine craft beers they carry. Did you know Maine has more microbreweries per capita than any other state?
Depending on the location, Thursday night could be children’s night from 4 to 8 pm with a half-price discount from the kid’s menu for dine-in meals. Ask the wait staff or check online to make sure before you go.
The Governors Restaurant in Waterville is open from 6:30 am to 9 pm daily.
