National Siblings Day: A Celebration of Love, Laughter, and the Art of Annoying Each Other
2023-04-10
Siblings. They're the people who have been with you through thick and thin, through good times and bad, and through all the arguments, fights, and pranks.
And on National Siblings Day, we celebrate all of the love and laughter that comes with having siblings. So, in honor of this special day, let's look at some of the joys and quirks of having siblings.
The Art of Annoying Each Other: Siblings Edition
One of the things that siblings are known for is their ability to annoy each other to no end. Whether stealing each other's clothes, playing pranks, or simply being in the same room, siblings have a knack for getting on each other's nerves.
But in a way, this is what makes having siblings so great. It's a special kind of bond that only siblings can share, and it's one that's built on a lifetime of annoyances, jokes, hugs, and laughter.
For example, there's the classic game of "I'm not touching you," where one sibling will hover their finger just inches away from the other's face, taunting them with the threat of contact but never actually touching them.
Then, there's the ever-popular game "Who Can Hold Their Breath the Longest," which usually ends in a burst of laughter and the realization that neither sibling can hold their breath for very long.
There’s also the always-popular “repeating everything your sister says” until she gets so annoyed she pounds you with her boyfriend’s school ring. Oh, BTW, it’s wrapped twenty times with Scotch tape, so it stays on her finger.
But despite all of the annoying games, a deep love and bond exist between siblings. We’d never consider ratting the other out about something serious. It's the kind of love that allows you to forgive each other for all the little annoyances and mistakes and to always be there for each other when it counts.
The Joys of Siblinghood: Laughter, Love, and Memories
Along with the annoyances, there is also plenty of joy that comes with having siblings. The laughter comes from sharing inside jokes, speaking pig Latin, so no one else can understand, and the memories. Always the memories and the love that comes from knowing that you always have someone to turn to, and the memories you create together last a lifetime.
For example, there's the memory of trying to bake a cake from scratch for your mother’s birthday, only to end up with a kitchen disaster and a barely edible cake. Ours was a raspberry disaster. What about yours?
These memories are what make having siblings so special. They're the kind of memories you look back on with a smile and make you feel grateful for the bond you share. The love of siblings never changes whether they're still with you or have already crossed the bridge to the other side.
Before closing, I'd like to say Happy Siblings Day to Cindy, Iris (Happy birthday), Tony, and Mark. I love you all more than words can say.
