    2023-04-29

President Biden recently unveiled a plan to provide free healthcare to migrants, which has sparked controversy and concern among many Americans.

Note: Some of the wording in this article is the author's opinion, though the statistics are facts.

While some may argue that this initiative is a step towards a more humane approach to immigration, others worry about its impact on taxpayers and the already struggling healthcare system.

What is DACA & why are they different?

One of the main arguments for providing free healthcare to migrants is protecting those under the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program.

DACA recipients are individuals brought to the United States as children and protected from deportation under certain conditions. While DACA recipients may have access to some benefits, such as work permits and Social Security numbers, they do not have access to federal healthcare programs like Medicaid.

This raises the question: why should migrants be given no-cost healthcare benefits that citizens cannot access? California Senator Joaquin Arambula proposed a similar initiative to provide healthcare for all Californians free of charge. However, this plan has also been criticized for relying on taxpayer funding.

Why isn't there a program for US citizens with pre-existing conditions?

Another concern regarding Biden's plan to provide free healthcare to migrants is the lack of a similar program for citizens with pre-existing conditions. Despite the Affordable Care Act's (ACA) efforts to protect those with pre-existing conditions, nearly 30 million Americans still do not qualify for Obamacare. This leaves many Americans without access to affordable healthcare, while migrants will be given free healthcare benefits.

While some argue that providing healthcare to migrants is a moral obligation, others believe that it is the government's duty to prioritize the needs of its citizens. Many Americans struggle to afford healthcare and may have to choose between medical treatment and other essential expenses, such as rent or groceries.

American taxpayers will pay for it seems to be the answer to the world's problems

One of the biggest concerns regarding Biden's initiative is the cost. With a price tag of $1.2 billion over the next four years, many are worried about the impact on taxpayers. This cost may be justifiable if it meant improving the healthcare system for all Americans. However, it seems unfair to prioritize migrants over citizens who are already struggling to access healthcare.

Biden's plan to provide free healthcare to migrants has raised many questions and concerns. While some may see it as a necessary step towards a more humane approach to immigration, others worry about its impact on taxpayers and the already struggling healthcare system.

It is imperative to consider the needs of all Americans, including those who are currently excluded from healthcare benefits. As Senator Arambula's initiative in California has shown, providing healthcare for all comes at a cost, and finding a sustainable solution that benefits everyone is essential.
