How Much Is a Full Kitchen Remodel?

    2023-07-20

What do you think of this kitchen? Too many want a white kitchen. They say, “Oh, it just looks cleaner.” You better make sure before you jump into a remodel you may not like long-term.

It’s true. White does look clean and sparkling—when it’s first completed. Although you could refinish it every couple of years to spruce it up and keep it looking clean, why go to all that expense and hassle?

To me, this is a beautiful kitchen. Of course, the plants really help, but the color scheme is terrific.

Remodeling Your Kitchen Is Not Cheap

If you were to update your kitchen, how much would you want to spend? Yeah, $500, I know.

Unfortunately, you can't even buy a good range for $500 anymore. But there are some ways to save, and paint is one of them.

Although paint isn’t cheap anymore, it provides a way to refurbish those cabinets without spending much money. Cabinets can cost up to $20,000.

How Much Is a Kitchen Remodel?

Appliances, backsplash, cabinets, the kitchen sink, and many other components make up the components of a kitchen remodel. However, the cost of a kitchen renovation depends on the homeowner's goals, preferences, and budget.

The average cost of those upgrades ranges from $25,001 to $50,000, according to a perceptive article in the Houzz magazine, How People Upgrade Their Kitchens and How Much They Spend.

You could, however, spend much more or less money. According to their study, 4% of respondents spent less than $5,000, and slightly fewer than 10% spent more than $100,000.

Sinks, countertops, and backsplashes were the most popular updates.

They wanted to make the house their own, had the money, and couldn't stand their kitchen any longer. One or all of these three factors most often lead to a remodel. However, A significant increase in your home's value is perhaps the most-commendable incentive to update your kitchen.

The following numbers are for individual projects but are probably less expensive when combined with a complete kitchen remodel. However, these figures will help you estimate the amount needed for each kitchen area. To create a budget objective, you can add the tasks you want to finish immediately.

    Appliances

For many years, kitchen remodelers have favored stainless steel appliances. Figure between $8,000 and $20,000, depending on what you need.

Currently, enamel-coated steel in a variety of colors is regaining popularity. Depending on the size and model, a side-by-side refrigerator-freezer will set you back $2,000 or more.

A new dishwasher will cost between $700 and $2,000. However, it will require more for installation and plumbing. Installation could cost anywhere from $400 to $1,000.

Spend an additional $1,200, or $3,000, if you also need to include a washer and dryer. Many are switching to stackables to save space.

    Backsplash

Of those surveyed, 90 percent said the backsplash was part of their kitchen revamp. Perhaps they’ve been watching Chip and Joanna Gaines on “Fixer Upper.” Joanna always concentrates on color schemes and backsplashes.

The cost of a new backsplash depends largely on the material, how much area you need to cover, and the price of local labor.

The national average is $1000, but a DIY with adhesive mats could be as little as $2.00-$5.00 per square foot. Therefore, the average 16-square-foot backsplash is $32-80, not counting new tools or additional supplies.

    Cabinets

For 30 linear feet of brand-new cabinets, the national average is $5,000. Linear feet are equivalent to length; for example, 30 linear feet of cabinets are required if there are 15 feet under the sink and 15 above.

Whether you select off-the-shelf, "stock," semi-custom, or custom-made cabinets will determine this price. You could pay between $15,000 and $30,000 for custom-made items.

However, the most cost-effective method is to paint, refinish, or reface. Replacing solid cabinets is not advisable when you can make them look new with a little imagination and a small budget.

    Concrete Countertop Marble Look

    Countertops

New countertops are the best option for a kitchen renovation. Ninety-five percent of people who were renovating their kitchens decided to install new countertops.

The cost of replacing or adding kitchen countertops is typically $3000, though it will vary depending on the material you choose. Granite, slate, marble, or other natural and manufactured materials are all options, depending on your budget.

Nowadays, they can do marvelous work with concrete, making a concrete countertop that costs much less look exactly like the much more expensive marble.

    Flooring

The first step is deciding if you want to refinish your hardwood floor. I don’t understand why many want to cover or rip up a hardwood floor. They’re easy to clean and long-lasting. I would refinish it.

If you’re undecided, get estimates for hardwood, laminate, or vinyl flooring. Don’t forget to add in the underlayment if required. I would get three estimates for each, then decide which is best.

    Lighting & Electrical Fixtures

There are surely lots of lights to choose from for your kitchen. An excellent choice is undercabinet lighting. Check out a few different looks online and then get a firm estimate of costs.

However, hiring an electrical contractor to install one lighting fixture is between $235 and $325. If your choice is a chandelier, check the selection on Global Sources. You will be pleasantly surprised at how inexpensive a modern crystal chandelier can be. However, there is a wide variety to choose from, including fabulous traditional crystal to industrial modern chandeliers with chrome or gold accents.

    Sinks & Plumbing Fixtures

A single-bowl sink costs $220 on average in the USA, while a triple-boil sink of the same size costs $300. Plumbing, installation, and hardware for these typically range from $380 to $400.

You can find ceramic-coated to match your appliances if you go that way, chrome, copper, and various other options at Lowe’s, Home Depot, Menard’s, Ace, True Value, and others.

    Walls or Open Space?

Many people choose to remove unnecessary walls because they want a clear view of the rest of their home from the kitchen table when remodeling their kitchen.

Some walls are load-bearing and require a significant financial outlay to remove. The price of removing a non-load-bearing wall ranges from $500 to $1,000.

For a multi-level home, however, replacing sagging walls with stretch beams ranges from $1,500 to $3,000 or as high as $10,000.

Depending on your approach, some walls may require sheetrock replacement. You can figure $1.25 to $3.00 per square foot, typically. If you decide to paint, it should range between $1.50 and $3.00 per square foot. It will be less expensive if either of these is included in a larger project.

    Contracting Your Kitchen Remodel

The most affordable and practical way to modernize your kitchen is frequently to hire one contractor.

Unless you have a specific plumber or electrician you want to use, let the contractor handle the electric and plumbing since they typically use subcontractors they know and can rely on.

Nothing, however, obligates you to do so. Suppose you know someone who specializes in that field, and they’re licensed and insured. In that case, you might get a better deal by working on some projects separately.

You might even choose to do some projects yourself. Many customers choose to do the painting themselves. You just have to remember it is a lot of work, and you must have the time to complete it without holding up the other work.

Because the cost of remodeling your kitchen can vary greatly, get as many estimates as possible. However, always go with a contractor you trust rather than one who offers the best deal. Before beginning, ensure they have the necessary permits, insurance, and contractor's license.
