OKLAHOMA CITY (KSWO) - A Southwest Oklahoma-based incumbent lost to a candidate campaigning as the more conservative option in the June 18 primaries. Sen. Jessica Garvin (R), who originally won the District 43 seat in 2020, lost to Kendal Sacchieri by an unofficial count of 628 votes. While campaign ads for this race were essentially nonexistent, competing campaign signs could be seen throughout Stephens County.
Stephens Co. man wanted after calling in bomb threat to Marlow diner
MARLOW, Okla. (KSWO) - A Stephens County man is wanted, after he’s accused of calling in a bomb threat at a business in Marlow. Gene Gibson faces a single felony charge of making a telephone bomb threat, a crime that carries between three and 10 years in prison if convicted.

Wanda Cottrell
Wanda Cottrell has moved on from this life, at the age of 92. She was born Oct. 17, 1931, in Petersburg. She died on June 12, 2024 in Garland, Texas, where she had lived for the past seven years with son David Cottrell. Wanda was a Stephens County resident for over 60 years, mostly in the Meridian community. She married James Cottrell in 1951 and they were married for 56 years until his passing in 2007. She was a homemaker and was one of the original employees at Hagger Slacks in Duncan. She later worked at Duncan Regional Hospital in Food Service. She and James raised cattle in the Loco are for many years and always had a garden at their home on Oliver Road. She was an avid walker, and she and James fished at Waurika Lake every spring for crappie. She was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother.
