The Sterling Heights Planning Commission approved a special land use permit for an upcoming fast food restaurant. The vacant building that was once a Burger King at 44805 Schoenherr Road will be converted into a Tim Hortons restaurant with drive-thru services.

Franchisees Elie and George Damouni will be opening the new restaurant under their company, E.G.G. Inc . The Damounis are seasoned multi-unit franchisees and also operate a Tim Hortons in Rochester Hills that opened in May, 2023. The pair also used to belong to an ownership team that operated over 10 Tim Hortons locations across Michigan, according to franchising documents.

Application documents indicate the new Tim Horton will occupy the existing 4,164-square-foot restaurant with a single drive-thru lane that allows a maximum of 10 cars to line up. Once up and running, the new restaurant will open its dine-in area from 6:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Monday and Saturday, from 5:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday, and from 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Sunday. The drive-thru window will be open from 5:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. Monday through Sunday. The restaurant and the drive-thru will be closed on Wednesday.

Headquartered in Toronto, Tim Hortons proudly claims itself to be the “home of Canada’s favorite coffee,” according to its website. The chain serves various bakery items and specialty espresso beverages. The menu also includes hot breakfast items, including different sandwiches and wraps. As of December 2023, there are 666 Tim Hortons in the United States.

What Now Detroit reached out to the franchisees but hadn’t received a reply by the time of this coverage. While no detailed opening timeframe is available, planning commission records suggest that the franchisees now need to obtain a variance from the Zoning Board of Appels due to its location being “within 500 feet of the Wendy’s” before they can move forward.
