STEUBENVILLE, Ohio (WTRF) — With a simple brick entrance tucked away on Lincoln Avenue, you would never guess Steubenville had a 99-acre nature park.

But more people are becoming aware of Beatty Park, which means more donations are coming in to rebuild the city’s best-kept secret.

A new outdoor amphitheater is about 75% built where the old pool used to be, thanks to a $100,000 grant.

When it’s completed, Steubenville will have another stage to see plays and small concerts, under a shady canopy of leaves.

The Art Association is also in the middle of painting a mural for the storywalk, sponsored by the Public Library.

The flat green space there used to be a different pool, and the park hopes it will become a secluded reading spot.

“Instead of just having a nasty green wall there or a concrete wall, the art association has painted flowers on it and animals on it. So the kids can stand up there and get a picture taken behind it. They can read their ABCs, count their numbers.”

One of the bridges is also under repair, which is currently blocking off about a third of the trails.

The park is also connected to the pre-Civil War Union Cemetery.

The three biggest events in the park are still to come.

They include the walking tour on September 28th and a trick-or-treat event…following by Santa flying in for a return appearance.
