STEUBENVILLE, Ohio (WTRF) — Even more than a new backpack or a new haircut–a new pair of shoes lets kids walk into the school year with style.

And the Jefferson County United Way wants to give every student that walk of confidence with its United Sole program.

They’re giving free school shoes to kids from ages newborn to 18 who qualify for free or reduced lunch.

They’ll be given out at the Urban Mission Back to School Bash on August 15th.

Applications are being taken right now from parents for their children, who every year love that they can step into something all their own.

“Because who doesn’t like a new pair of shoes, right? Everybody likes a new pair of shoes, so their faces light up and they’re just so appreciative. And it just is a really good start for them to get back to school.”

Laura Rauch, Executive Director, Jefferson County United Way

Parents can fill out an application with their ID, their children’s ID and a proof of residency in Jefferson or Harrison Counties.

That application can be found here and returned to the office at 511 North 4th Street in Steubenville by Friday, July 19th.

The United Way says they want to thank everyone who helps make the program possible, including the Cardinal Plant.
