(DENVER, Colo.) Hello, top of the morning, and welcome to another Thursday edition of the Denver Daily Roundup.
Thursday's weather forecast predicts hot, sunny and windy conditions in the Mile High City. The skies will be clear, with a high temperature near 78.
Without further ado, let's take a deep dive into a few of the most important and local stories from in and around the Denver metro that you should know more about:
Jeff Schlanger, Aurora's independent monitor, asked residents during a town hall meeting to contact him regarding police misconduct.
NewsBreak Denver's David Heitz reported that Colorado Attorney General Phil Weiser opened an investigation into the Aurora Police Department following Elijah McClain's death in police custody. That investigation resulted in a consent decree, an agreement to bring real change to the department through reforms.
Schlanger said that a Community Advisory Council, aimed at deterring if the community thinks the department is enacting true reform, will collect information from the public soon.
A majority of travelers at Denver International Airport chose to ditch their masks days after the Transportation Security Administration lifted its mandate.
Axios Denver reported that nearly 10% of travelers and employees at the airport wore face coverings Wednesday. However, travelers are divided on the issue of wearing a mask in transit.
Aurora resident Pam Clift said she continued to wear a mask because she was flying to see her elderly mother and father. Tim Orr, a traveler who came to DIA while flying from Indiana to Arizona, said he was uncomfortable not wearing a mask.
Asian fusion restaurant Bopp Kitchen will open its doors Thursday from 9:30 a.m. to 10 p.m. in Thornton.
The restaurant, located at 5883 E 128th Ave., offers late breakfast, lunch and dinner and has partnered with local growers for fresh ingredients and herbs like chives, dill, pea shoots and more. The restaurant was initially set to open its doors Tuesday. However, staffing shortages and food delays pushed it back to Thursday.
"My family had Chinese restaurants and diners from Arvada to Brighton when I was younger, said Gabriel Park, restaurateur and owner of Bopp Kitchen. "I always wanted to open a restaurant, but my wife said no for a long time. Finally, I just decided to go for it."
The National Western Center launched the largest wastewater heat recovery system in North America on Wednesday.
NewsBreak Denver's Margaret Jackson reported the National Western Center campus will have the ability to source roughly 90% of its heating and cooling from an underground wastewater pipeline through an agreement with EAS Energy Partners.
