    2022-05-02

By Steven Bonifazi / NewsBreak Denver

(DENVER, Colo.) Top of the morning and happy Monday to you and yours, Denver Rounderuppers.

Welcome back to another Monday edition of the Denver Daily Roundup. Today is the second day of the fifth month of 2022.

The weather in Denver Monday is shaping up to be cloudy, cold and wet, with rain showers and thunderstorms expected throughout the day.

Let's take a closer look at a few of the top, local stories you should be aware of this Monday:

    1. Many COVID testing sites in Denver metro closing

Over a dozen free COVID-19 testing sites in the Denver metro are closing this weekend.

CBS Denver reported the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment will close roughly a third of its testing sites in May. Around 80 sites will remain operational.

The closing of the testing sites comes as COVID-19 rates are trending upward in the state, with the 7-day positivity rate at almost 6%, twice as much as it was 30 days ago. However, hospitalizations are remaining low, with nearly 100 reported on Friday.

    2. Nightmare just beginning for homeowners impacted by Denver water main break

Roughly 50 homes in Denver's Berkeley neighborhood were clear of water on Sunday, a week after a water main break flooded them. However, for some homeowners, the nightmare has just begun.

For some homes, the flooding managed to separate the foundation and leave cracks throughout, Denver7 reported. Contractors were hired by Denver water to fix homes that sustained heavy damage.

A Denver Water spokesperson said on Sunday that roughly 4 million gallons of water were lost during the main break. Denver water received around a dozen claims for damaged vehicles in addition to the 50 homes that saw flooding.

    3. Fast-tracked Colorado bill threatens families and CBD industry

Colorado Senate Bill 22-205 could threaten the state's hemp industry if it passes through the legislature.

NewsBreak Denver's Margaret Jackson reported the bill bans the manufacture and sale of an adult0use cannabis product and prohibits manufacturing and selling an industrial hemp product not made by a registered wholesale food manufacturer.

Colorado's Committee for Business, Labor and Technology will host a public hearing for the bill at 1:30 p.m. on Monday.
