Grizzly Bear Spotted Near Chewelah
The Stevens County Sheriff’s Office informed the public on June 7 that a bear was observed breaking into a chicken coop north of Chewelah on the morning of June 2. The bear was identified by its radio collar, and it was confirmed that it was the same grizzly that was captured last year for the same behavior in the Onion Creek area, north of Colville.

Jun. 14—A 76-year-old man died in a two-vehicle crash Thursday 4 miles south of Springdale in Stevens County. Gary G. Grantham, of Springdale, was driving a 2012 Honda CR-V at about 3:30 p.m. south on State Route 231 at Reservation Road when he crossed the center line and struck a northbound 2017 Jeep Wrangler, according to a Washington State Patrol news release.
