    Mid-State Roller Derby gears up for double header

    STEVENS POINT – Mid-State Roller Derby will hold a roller derby double-header Aug. 3, followed by the launch of a new skater class beginning in September.

    Whether you’re a seasoned fan or new to the sport, these events offer an opportunity to join the roller derby community.

    The Aug. 3 double-header at K.B. Willett Ice Arena, 1000 Minnesota Ave., Stevens Point, will feature four roller derby teams when Mid-State Roller Derby goes up against Chippewa Valley Roller Derby, and Mississippi Valley Mayhem takes on Marquette Roller Derby. Doors open at 4 p.m., and the first whistle blows at 4:30 p.m.

    Concessions, merchandise and activities for kids will be offered. Tickets are $10 per person; $5 with a valid student ID; and free for children ages 12 and younger.

    Tickets are available now and can be purchased online.

    Roller derby 101 – New skater class

    Aspiring roller derby players can take the Roller Derby 101 classes for beginners starting on Sept. 8 at Melody Gardens, 1200 S. Oak Ave., in Marshfield. It’s perfect for new skaters who are looking to learn and master the basics of roller derby. It will be held from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Sundays and 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Tuesdays. Prepay and save your spot for $20, or pay $25 day-of (cash or check).
