MAHOPAC, N.Y. — Samuel Grimm, of Mahopac Troop 1, has achieved the rank of Eagle, Scouting’s highest honor, recently completing all the requirements necessary to earn this distinguished rank. For his Eagle Scout service project, Sam designed and built custom storage cubbies for Sycamore Park’s beach area. Working with Recreation and Parks Director Nina Kallmeyer, Sam identified a need for organized storage for visitors’ belongings while they swim. 3 ex-employees of N.J. law school admit stealing $1.3M from university
Three former employees of Seton Hall Law School have pleaded guilty to a $1.3 million scheme to defraud the university, authorities said. Mahopac Kids Get Hooked on Fishing
MAHOPAC, N.Y. — Dozens of area kids got an introduction to angling at Sycamore Park at this weekend’s Town of Carmel Fishing Deby. Organized by Councilman Robert Kearns in partnership with the Putnam Federation of Sporting Clubs, Kent Rod and Gun Club, the Oasis Club, and Fish On Bait Shop, the free outing gave 50 local children a lesson in fishing and more. Members of the Carmel and Kent police departments—both human and canine—were also on hand to help out. “Every child received a free pole, tackle box with hooks, bobbers, and worms,” Kearns said. “I want to thank the Carmel and Kent PD for volunteering their time. Abigail Horn, 18, is charged with attempted homicide, aggravated assault, and endangering the welfare of a child, prosecutors wrote in a release. Witnesses told Bethlehem police in May that they saw Horn "smothering" the then-6-week-old child, according to authorities. Others said Horn caused the baby to "scream and gasp for air," and on a separate occasion, "squeezed the infant and caused the infant to scream in apparent pain."
