Carjacking Suspect Arrested After High-Speed 5 Freeway Pursuit

A man who allegedly carjacked his girlfriend and led law enforcement on a high-speed pursuit Tuesday evening was taken into custody.

Around 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, deputies received a 911 call from a woman near The Old Road and Valencia Boulevard in Stevenson Ranch who requested help and immediately hung up the phone,, said Deputy Robert Jensen, spokesperson for the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station .

“When we called back, a  female said she was pushed out of her vehicle by a male and he took off in the vehicle,” Jensen said.

Shortly after the call, deputies located the vehicle that was taken in the carjacking and initiated a traffic stop. The suspect fled and a pursuit was initiated.

Deputies with the SCV Sheriff’s Station pursued the vehicle northbound on the 5 Freeway, according to Jensen.

Deputies requested the California Highway Patrol (CHP) to  take over the pursuit.

“We took over the pursuit on I-5 northbound in the Castaic area,” said Officer Josh Greengard, spokesperson for the CHP Newhall Area Office. “We pursued the suspect to Gorman where CHP Fort Tejon took over the Pursuit. CHP Fort Tejon was able to apprehend the suspect.”

During the investigation, law enforcement learned the suspect and victim were boyfriend and girlfriend, according to Jensen.

The carjacking suspect was transported back to the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station jail.

“This incident is a multi-agency arrest, CHP and LASD will file separate charges on the suspect,” Greengard added.
