STEVENSVILLE — The Kent Island High School (KIHS) Symphonic Band and Chorus traveled to Virginia to explore Colonial Williamsburg and perform at the Music in the Parks festival at Busch Gardens on April 26-27.

Both ensembles received Excellent ratings from adjudicators. KIHS also received the Esprit de Corps Award recognizing their exemplary attitude of positive support and outstanding personal behavior throughout the entire festival weekend. The Esprit de Corps Award is the highest honor given to just one of the twenty bands attending the festival.

“Traveling and performing outside of our Band Room is a priority of our program,” shared KIHS Band Director Kimberly Scully. “Performance travel provides students with invaluable opportunities for personal growth, building camaraderie within the band, and experiencing different cultures through music. These trips create lasting memories and inspire a deep appreciation for the arts, making them essential for a well-rounded education.”

Scully’s Symphonic Band just returned from their first ‘in-person’ All-State Band Festival, and Sherman’s choir performs at their All-State Chorus Festival the last Friday in April.
