STEVENSVILLE — The Kent Island Cruisers’ July 9th Super Cruise honored Doug Bishop for his 24 years as local reporter. Linda Austin, owner of Rita’s Ice, Stevensville often hosts Tuesday evening cruise-ins for the Kent Island Cruisers.

Eminent speakers, classic cars, gifts, and a certificate of appreciation for Bishop signed by 27 Queen Anne’s County residents attested to his achievements. Bishop has published over 1,500 stories in his newspaper career.

Praising Bishop’s accomplishments were: Jack Broderick, longtime Kent Island Heritage Society President; Jim Brown, former 40-year Grasonville Community Center President; Jimmy Cox, three-times Past Kent Island Elks Exalted Ruler; Hannah Combs, Editor of the Bay Times/Record Observer, her message read by Rebecca Placek, director, Kent Island Federation of Arts; Mike Francis, president of the Kent Island Cruisers and Dr. Paul Placek, secretary of the Kent Island Cruisers and secretary of the Historic Stevensville Arts and Entertainment District.

Longtime friends of Bishop, the Placeks gifted Bishop with an antique typewriter and an original page from Harper’s Weekly 1863 newspaper, a Civil War illustration by Thomas Nast, “Negro Regiment in Action”.

Bishop credited his wife Robin for her advice, insight, patience, and understanding of his busy profession. He appreciated the attendance of his many friends. He joked that it was a “roast” since it was a heat advisory day of 103 degrees.
