LOGAN SQUARE — Chef Jason Hammel and the Lula Cafe team are gearing up to open a new culinary spot in Logan Square — but it’s no typical restaurant. LOULOU, 3057 W. Logan Blvd., will be a creative studio for culinary events, chef programs, collaborative meals with emerging and visiting chefs, talks and performances broadcast live with industry leaders and more, Hammel said. Omenai Gallery is opening its first physical space, in West Town, presenting “In-Between Ashes,” a selection of works by Ghanaian artist Kwaku Owusu Achim, opening tonight, July 19, through August 23. This is the artist’s first solo show and debut solo showcase in the United States. Founded by Gbenro Adeyemo, Omenai Gallery inaugurates its hybrid, digital-physical model at 1716 West Grand, three years after the OMENAI brand, “a natively social media and digital editorial platform, was created. The digital-physical expansion follows a wave of interest from artists, collectors and enthusiasts, who since 2021 have lauded the brand for democratizing access to the contemporary African art market, both on the African continent and throughout its diaspora.”

National Veterans Art Museum exhibit reflects sculptor’s life as medic, escape from communism
