POPLAR GROVE, Ill. — Avarie Torres smacked a two-run home run to center field in the fourth inning to break a scoreless tie and North Boone (15-3) went on to defeat Stillman Valley 5-1 in Big Northern softball action Thursday.

The Vikings made the most of four hits and two Stillman Valley errors. In the fourth, Danielle Goodman reached on an error and an out later Torres launched her homer.

North Boone tacked on three runs in the sixth inning. Lauren Stefek led off with a double and took third on a passed ball. Cami Carter then walked. Goodman belted a sacrifice fly and Marlee Alderman ripped a run-scoring double. Alderman took third on a wild pitch and scored on an error.

Stillman Valley’s lone run came in the top of the seventh on a solo homer. That was the only run allowed by the Vikings’ Carter, who scattered seven hits. She walked none and struck out nine to pick the win.

    • HARLEM 14, BELOIT MEMORIAL 2: The Purple Knights ventured south for a non-conference game and had trouble containing the Harlem offense. The Huskies pounded out 15 hits and also took advantage of five Beloit errors.

Laci Knutson and Rylie Adams each were 3-for-3 for Harlem. Knutson scored twice and knocked in two while Adams scored once, homered and had three RBIs. The top run producer was Aubrey Burbach, who was 2-for-3 with a homer, two runs scored and five RBIs. Alaina Schwanke belted a pair of doubles.

Adams was the winning pitcher, going five innings and allowing four hits and two unearned runs. She walked one and struck out five.

Jasmine Smith and Chesney Bishop each went 2-for-3 to account for all of Beloit’s hits. The Knights did steal seven bases.

Rilynne Cleland started in the pitcher’s circle and allowed 14 hits and 14 runs (six earned) in three innings. She walked one and struck out two. Salma Alverson pitched a scoreless inning, allowing one hit.

    • CLINTON 6, BIG FOOT 5: Cougars’ junior Ashley Theisen got it done from both the pitching circle and the plate as she racked up four RBI and earned the complete-game victory over the Chiefs with seven strong innings thrown in the RVC Rock showdown.

Theisen’s two-run single in the third tied it at two and her two-run double in the fifth was followed up by a crucial one-run single by Jordi Morrison to make it 6-3.

Lily Wolf, who went 2-for-4, hit a solo homer for the Chiefs (6-4, 4-2) in the seventh and scored on Holly Kynell’s sacrifice bunt in the third.

Bell and Theisen both had two hits for Clinton (3-4, 3-4). Theisen allowed five runs (two earned) on four hits while striking out 14.

Big Foot’s Kynell took the loss as she allowed six earned runs on seven hits with 10 strikeouts.

    • PARKVIEW 12, DODGELAND/HUSTISFORD 11: The Vikings led 7-6 when D/H poured on five runs in the top of the seventh and looked poised to steal a win on Thursday.

But hosting Parkview responded with five runs of their own to surge ahead and snap a three-game losing streak.

Dasia Dixon drew a bases-loaded walk to get the scoring started in the final frame. Jazmyn Wiedmer then smacked a three-run triple to tie it at 11 and Joey Meyers hit a ground ball to the third baseman, who made an error on the play and allowed Abby Anderson to score the winning run.

Parkview (3-6, 3-5 Trailways South) had scored six runs in the sixth to open a big lead before D/H (5-5 3-4) came storming back.

Wiedmer went 3-for-5 with three RBI while Anderson had a hit and three RBI. Abby Farnsworth, who finished with three hits, smacked a three-run inside-the-park homer in the big sixth.
