This is a look back at some of the people and teams making news in the St. Croix Valley 10 years ago, as reported in the Stillwater Gazette.

Legion baseball — Mahtomedi’s Michael Baumann limits Stillwater to just three hits, but Nathan Mathwig allows just two hits on the mound for Post #48 in a 2-1 American Legion baseball victory at Mahtomedi. Mathwig allows one walk and strikes out four while not allowing an earned run. After reaching on an error and advancing on a wild pitch, Arthur Seeb scores the game-winner for Stillwater in the top of the seventh on run-scoring single by Aidan Zurn.

Softball — After batting .475 in 18 conference games and finishing with 33 RBIs, sophomore Natalie Ingram is chosen the Most Valuable Athlete for the Stillwater softball team. Carlie Hart and Natalie Gerber join Ingram in receiving All-Suburban East Conference honors for the Ponies (8-10 SEC, 12-13).

SAHS — For the seventh year in a row, Stillwater Area High School leads all Suburban East Conference schools in the Minnesota State High School League’s Challenge Cup standings. Stillwater places 11th overall with 275 points, one spot ahead of 12th-place Roseville (273.7) and also ahead of Mounds View (14th, 262.7) and East Ridge (17th, 240.3). Wayzata (920.5), Eden Prairie (637) and Lakeville North (521) claim the top three spots in the recognition for performance in postseason tournaments in athletics and fine arts activities.
