Golf — Stillwater graduate Cassie Deeg captures the Minnesota Women’s State Amateur Championship at Forest Hills Golf Club. The University of Nebraska junior-to-be turns in a three-round total of 219 to outdistance runner-up Anna Laorr (224) by five shots. Haley Boner, a prep teammate of Deeg who now plays for the women’s golf team at North Dakota State University, finishes in a tie for third at 225.

Girls tennis — The ninth-ranked Stillwater girls tennis team opens the season with a third-place finish behind sixth-ranked Mahtomedi and Apple Valley in the McGuire Invitational at SAHS. The Ponies (2-0) also record nonconference dual meet victories over Chisago Lakes and North St. Paul.

Boys cross-country — It is a record-setting night for junior Eli Krahn, who shatters the race record with a winning time of 15:00 in the Stillwater boys cross-country team’s annual 5-kilometer twilight meet at Stillwater Junior High School. Krahn eclipses the previous record set by Wayde Hall (15:26) two years earlier. Bailey Hesse-Withbroe also betters the previous record after crossing the line in 15:25.
