Holmes and Jaeger are SAHS Athletes of the Week

Girls Nordic skiing

You can’t always count on snow in Minnesota, but you can bank on the Stillwater girls Nordic skiing team contending for conference and section titles.

Bailey Holmes helped the Ponies capture both while finishing third in the pursuit with a time of 37:10 at the Section 4 Meet on Feb. 7 at Battle Creek. The senior also placed fourth to earn all-conference honors while contributing to Stillwater’s first-place finish in the SEC Championships on Feb. 1.

The Ponies are scheduled to compete in the state meet on Feb. 14-15 at Giants Ridge.

Cash Jaeger

Boys alpine skiing

It wasn’t the outcome envisioned for the Stillwater boys alpine skiing team, but Cash Jaeger was sharp for the Ponies during the Section 4 Meet on Feb. 7 at Wild Mountain.

The senior placed second in the individual standings, just four one-hundredths of a second behind medalist Jackson Reents of Hastings as Stillwater placed third in the team standings to narrowly miss a repeat trip to the state meet.

Jaeger, the state runner-up a year ago, will be joined at this year’s state meet by teammate Ethan Stabenow in the individual competition.
