Stillwater girls hockey players Josie St. Martin and Lily Timmons are being considered for state-wide awards presented by Let’s Play Hockey.

St. Martin was recently listed among the group of 10 semifinalists for the Ms. Hockey Award, which has been presented annually since 1997. The other finalists include: Lindzi Avar (Minnetonka), Chloe Boreen (Hill-Murray), Addie Bowlby (Lakeville North), Kendra Distad (Minnetonka), Hannah Halverson (Edina), Kate Kosobud (Moorhead), Ilsa Lindman (Duluth Marshall), Ayla Puppe (Northfield) and Bella Shipley (Maple Grove).

St. Martin has produced 26 goals and 38 assists in 22 games this season, despite missing five games. She missed one game due to illness and four while helping lead Team USA to a gold medal in the IIHF Under-19 Women’s World Championships in Switzerland. The Ohio State University recruit has also racked up 111 goals and 130 assists for 241 points in 121 career games for the Ponies in five seasons — an average of nearly two points per game.

“She’s put herself in position to be a top-five finalist,” Ponies coach Annie Cashman said. “She has done everything a community would ever hope for and even representing us on a national stage.”

Timmons, meanwhile, is listed among 10 finalists for the Jori Jones Award, which honors the state’s most outstanding senior goaltender. Joining Timmons as semifinalists are: Claire Bronson (Lakeville South), Kaitlin Groess (Centennial/Spring Lake Park), Olivia Hansen (Prior Lake), Ana Jyrkas (Fergus Falls), Gretchen Paaverud (Anoka), Kayla Simonson (Delano/Rockford), Dani Strom (Maple Grove), Tegan Swanson (Eden Prairie) and Grace Zhan (Hill-Murray).

Timmons has recorded eight shutouts with a .912 save percentage and a 2.11 goals against average this season.

“For one of our kids to be considered is truly an honor and well deserved,” Cashman said, noting the depth of outstanding senior goalies in the state this year. “I’ve never had a goalie that knows hockey as well as she does. She brings a lot to us and this is very deserving for her and exciting for Stillwater. There’s a lot of people and little goalies that look up to Lily. She’s doing a great job.”

The semifinalists for the Ms. Hockey and Jori Jones awards will be narrowed to five before the winners are announced at the Ms. Hockey Banquet on Feb. 25 at the St. Paul RiverCenter.

“It says a lot about Stillwater and the work that a lot of people, coaches and parents put in to have two home-grown kids coming through our program and being up for those awards,” Cashman said. “It’s more of a lifetime achievement award, but to have two kids up for those awards in an incredible honor for us and they are deserving of anything they get.”
