Powell and Reedy are SAHS Athletes of the Week

Girls Nordic skiing

In a season that offered little snow, there were still plenty of achievements for Stella Powell and the Stillwater girls Nordic skiing team, which placed seventh in the state meet on Feb. 14-15 at Giants Ridge.

The junior earned all-state honors after finishing 20th overall and 16th for purposes of team scoring in the pursuit. Earlier this season, Powell placed fourth in the section meet and third in the SEC meet to help the Ponies defend titles in both of those races.

Stillwater has advanced to state each of the past 13 seasons.

Alex Reedy

Boys hockey

The Stillwater boys hockey team captured just the third conference title in the program’s history and goaltender Alex Reedy played an important role all season.

The senior turned away 17 shots as the Ponies defeated East Ridge 5-2 to secure at least a share of the team’s first SEC title since 2017. Reedy also totaled 28 saves, including six in overtime, as the Stillwater skated to a 2-all tie against Holy Family on Feb. 17.

The Ponies (14-2-0 SEC, 14-9-2) face Mounds View in the Section 4AA quarterfinals on Saturday, Feb. 24 at Aldrich Arena.
