This is a look back at some of the people and teams making news in the St. Croix Valley 10 years ago, as reported in the Stillwater Gazette.

Wrestling — Seniors Grant Wohlwend, Hauden Hausken and Peter Palecek advance to the state tournament following the Section 4AAA individual tournament at North St. Paul High School. Wohlwend finishes with a 3-0 record to capture the title at 170 pounds while Hausken and Palecek advance as the runner-ups at 220 and 285 pounds.

Boys hockey — After losing to White Bear Lake twice during the regular season, the Stillwater boys hockey team trips up the Bears 2-1 in overtime at the State Fairgrounds Coliseum to advance to the section finals for just the fifth time in school history. Sophomore Jackson Cates tips a shot by Jon Peterson from just inside the blue line for the game-winner. Jack Manning supplies the first goal for the third-seeded Ponies (15-10-2) in a game that is scoreless going into the third.

Boys basketball — Matt Anderson scores 15 of his game-high 19 points in the second half as Stillwater tops fourth-seeded Roseville 56-47 in the quarterfinals of the Section 4AAAA boys basketball tournament. The Ponies (13-14) split with Roseville during the regular season but hold off the Raiders with a 25-9 scoring advantage at the free throw line. Kyle McKinley adds 10 points, 11 rebounds and five blocked shots for the Ponies.
