Biederman and Sorensen are SAHS Athletes of the Week

Gymnastics

One of four seniors among Stillwater’s five qualifiers for the state gymnastics meet, Ava Biederman represented the Ponies well in the vault and floor exercise on Saturday, Feb. 24 at Roy Wilkins Auditorium in St. Paul.

Biederman placed 20th in the vault with a score of 9.35 and added a 45th-place finish in the floor with a score of 8.5. She joined junior teammate Liberty Quast as the only Ponies to compete at state in more than one event.

The Ponies placed third in the SEC standings and landed second in the Section 4AA Meet.

Tate Sorensen

Boys swimming and diving

Competing at Stillwater Middle School for the last time, senior Tate Sorensen finished with a flourish while defending his individual section title and getting named Section 4AA Diver of the Year on Friday, Feb. 23.

Sorensen has led a strong group of divers for the Ponies all season and his winning total of 448.70 at sections was more than 78 points ahead of the second-place finisher in the event.

Sorensen and the Ponies, who placed second in the team standings, are set to compete in the state meet on Feb. 29-March 2.
